Our COVID Safe Policy

in Editorial by (No comments)

We are aware that some people are concerned about a few of our volunteers not wearing face coverings. Therefore, we would like to explain our position.

Many of our volunteers have underlying health conditions which are not always visible. Under Government guidelines, they are exempt from wearing face coverings. As a charity, Mesopotamia have made risk assessments including reducing the number of volunteers on the shop floor, screening off the till area and providing hand sanitiser; we are also encouraging regular hand washing.

We have been visited by Nottingham City Council Safety Team who have confirmed we have taken the correct and appropriate actions but need to publicise these, to reassure our customers. If you do have any specific concerns, please contact us.

Spread a little Christmas Cheer

in Editorial by (No comments)

This year we have made the decision that we will give every child on our food distribution list a gift for them to open on Christmas morning. We realise that times are hard for many and we see the biggest impact is on children. We are asking our supporters to donate a small gift for a child in need this Christmas. Please don’t wrap the gift – we will do that.

Nearly there!

I visited Mesopotamia this week to see for myself how the build is progressing and was struck by how large the store is! As readers will see from our blog, Mesopotamia are not currently able to accept any more donations because they literally have no where to store them. Under COVID rules any donations need to be stored for 72 hours before they can be displayed for sale. So this store is desperately needed.

This week Mike, Ian and John continued with cladding the structure. They are waiting on delivery of the roof and then it should be good to go!

No more room at the Inn

Here at Mesopotamia we are so grateful for the donations that we receive and can pass on to people in need. But, sadly, at the moment we are unable to take any items of clothing. Because of COVID-19 regulations, we have to store most donations for three days before we can add to our shelving in our charity shop. But as you will see from our previous blog we are having a food store built which will free up much needed space.

When we are able to take donations again we will let you know via this blog so please follow us. (See top of website on the Blog page.)

The build has started!

Mike Douglas from VISAV Ltd who are currently sponsoring Mesopotamia wrote on Saturday 3 October:

I am so proud of my United Service Lodge 4068 brethren today. Some hardy members braved the rain and turned up at local charity, Mesopotamia, to build a huge shed that will help them with food storage for their amazing work feeding people in desperate need. Funded by www.nottswatch.co.uk , my Neighbourhood Watch Association and local Councillors, this build is a fantastic example of what selfless people can achieve and what #MasonaryInAction means.

When Mike and Rob, from VISAV first visited the Mesopotamia site they were appalled to see the rubbish that had been fly tipped and left around the area. Rachel “took it in” and arranged for the City Council to clear it all.
